Purpose Of The Metronome
Since the invention of the metronome in Dietrich Nikolaus Winkel in 1812, the metronome has been used by composers to indicate the various tempi of their pieces. For performers, the metronome has been an invaluable practice tool to test their internal clock against an unbiased and unrelenting source.
Using/Controlling The Metronome
Set the metronome to the desired tempo and click on Start. Measure emphasis can be added by adjusting the time signature to anything greater than 1/4.
If you are viewing the metronome in Internet Explorer in Windows, you may need to click "OK" on an ActiveX dialog box.

Notes on Performance
Because this metronome uses JavaScript as its brains, performance will vary depending on the efficiency of your browser. Safari seems to have fantastic performance speeds - even on slow machines, whereas IE and Firefox seem to delay or miss beats on older machines.
